Apple just made it official today. The company sent out media invites for its September 9th event, confirming all those rumors that have been floating around.
The show begins at 10 AM PT inside the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. That’s 1 PM Eastern, or 10:30 PM for folks in India. Apple’s calling this one “Awe dropping” – their clever twist on words mixing “awe-inspiring” and “jaw-dropping”.
The iPhone 17 series will of course be the highlight of the show. Apple is expected to present its four phones: the regular model iPhone 17, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, and also the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Air is generating the most buzz. This thing could be just 5.5mm thick with a 6.6-inch screen, making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone ever. That would beat even the iPhone 6’s record. The Air model replaces the Plus version in Apple’s lineup.
Of course, making a phone that slim means Apple had to compromise in a few areas. The iPhone 17 Air will probably have just one camera on the back and a smaller battery to achieve that super-slim design.
The Pro models might get some big changes, too. Rumors point to a redesigned camera system that stretches across the entire back of the phone instead of the usual square module. The regular iPhone 17 could finally get that 120Hz display that Pro users have enjoyed for years.
Apple will stream the whole thing live on their website, Apple TV app, and YouTube like they’ve been doing since 2020. Also at the event, new Apple Watch models are likely to be displayed and perhaps new AirPods Pro 3.
