Realme officially launched its new Realme 15x smartphone in India today, starting at Rs 16,999. The device comes powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor. The phone brings several impressive features to the budget segment. But there’s also some interesting marketing talk we need to break down.
Let me start with what caught my attention right away. Realme says this phone has an “IP69 Pro” rating. Now, I’ve been covering tech for a while, and this made me scratch my head. The smartphone actually carries IP69 ratings, which is legit protection against dust and water. But that “Pro” part? That’s Realme’s own creative addition.
They explain it means the phone meets multiple protection standards simultaneously – IP66, IP68, and IP69. Basically, they’re trying to sound extra impressive when the regular IP69 rating is already really good.
What Makes This Phone Special
The real star here is the battery. The phone packs a 7000mAh battery that supports 60W charging and comes with an 80W adapter in the box. Think about it – that’s almost twice the battery capacity of many flagship phones. If you hate charging your phone every day, this could be perfect for you.
The device features a 6.8-inch HD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1200 nits peak brightness. That high refresh rate makes everything feel super smooth when you’re scrolling through apps or playing games. It’s especially nice to see this feature in a budget phone since smooth displays used to cost way more money.

Photography looks solid too. The phone has a 50MP Sony IMX852 rear camera and a 50MP front camera. Both support AI features, cinematic video, wide-angle selfies, and various shooting modes including slow-motion, time-lapse, and even underwater mode. Yes, you read that right – underwater mode. Remember that water resistance we talked about?
Memory and Software
The smartphone comes with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, which is expandable. That’s plenty of room for your apps, photos, and videos. Plus you can add more storage with a microSD card if you need it.
The phone runs on Realme UI 6.0 based on Android 15. Getting Android 15 right out of the box is pretty nice. You won’t have to wait months for the latest Android version like with some other budget phones.
Size and Features
The device measures 8.28mm thick and weighs 212g. Connectivity includes 5G + 5G dual-mode, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3. The phone also has 1115 Ultra-Linear Speakers with dual-mic noise cancellation, AI Call Noise Reduction 2.0, and AI Outdoor Mode for louder audio.
At 212 grams, it’s definitely not the lightest phone around. You can thank that huge battery for the extra weight. But honestly? I’d rather have a phone that lasts two days than one that’s super thin and dies by dinner time.
The Weird Marketing Claims
Now, about that protection rating stuff. Realme claims the phone can survive in 36 different types of liquids at temperatures from 0°C to 85°C. They haven’t told us what those liquids are though. Coffee? Soda? Hot sauce? Your guess is as good as mine. It feels like they’re trying really hard to make this sound revolutionary when honestly, good water resistance is already great.
The company also mentions something called Smart Touch support. This lets you use the phone with wet or oily hands, while wearing gloves, or even when the phone’s in a waterproof bag. That actually sounds pretty useful, especially during monsoon season or if you work outdoors.
AI Features Everywhere
Like every phone in 2025, this one comes loaded with AI features. There’s AI Landscape, AI Eraser, AI Ultra Clarity 2.0, AI Glare Remover, AI Motion Deblur, and AI Image Matting for the cameras. Some of these actually help take better photos. Others… well, they’re there if you want them.
The phone also has something called a Pulse Light on the back for notifications. It has nine color options and five glowing modes. Kind of reminds me of those old phones with LED notification lights, just fancier.
Interesting Extra Features
One feature that surprised me is reverse wired charging at 6.5W. You can use your phone to charge other devices. Your friend’s phone dying? You can help them out. Pretty handy in emergencies.
The phone also has MIL-STD-810H certification for durability. That means it’s tested for drops, extreme temperatures, and other harsh conditions. Combined with all that water resistance, this phone should handle daily life pretty well.
Realme 15x Price and Availability
The phone is priced at Rs 16,999 ($190/€165) for the 6GB + 128GB and Rs 17,999 ($200/€175) for the 8GB + 128GB models, respectively, with a 10% instant bank discount. The Realme 15x 5G is available from Realme India online store, Flipkart, and offline stores starting from October 1st at 12 noon.
Three color choices are available – Aqua Blue, Marine Blue, and Maroon Red. Not the most exciting names, but the phones actually look pretty decent in person.
Who Should Buy This?
If you’re someone who values battery life above everything else, this phone makes a lot of sense. That 7,000 mAh battery will easily last two days for most people. Maybe even three if you’re not a heavy user.
The high refresh rate display is great for gaming and general use. The cameras seem capable enough for social media and everyday photos. And the durability features mean you probably won’t need a super bulky case.
But there are some things to consider. The HD+ resolution isn’t as sharp as Full HD displays on competing phones. The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is fine for daily use but won’t win any performance awards. And at 212 grams, you’ll definitely feel this phone in your pocket.
Final Thoughts
The Realme 15x is an interesting addition to the budget phone market. It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Instead, it focuses on a few key things – incredible battery life, durability, and smooth performance for the price.
Sure, Realme gets a bit carried away with marketing terms like “IP69 Pro” and claiming protection against mystery liquids. But underneath the hype, this is actually a solid phone for people who need their device to last all day (and then some) without babying it.
At under 17,000 rupees for the base model, it’s competing in a crowded market. But that massive battery and 144Hz display help it stand out. If those features matter to you more than having the sharpest screen or fastest processor, the Realme 15x could be exactly what you’re looking for.
