Apple reportedly pulls iPhone Air 2 from its schedule with no new date

iPhone Air 2

A new report from The Information says Apple has taken the next iPhone Air off its launch schedule and did not set a new release date. The outlet cites three people involved with the project. Apple has not announced an iPhone Air 2 on its Newsroom or product pages, so this change has not been publicly confirmed by Apple.

iPhone Air 2 delayed

According to the report, the second‑gen iPhone Air was originally planned for next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and a foldable iPhone. The iPhone Air 2 was described as even lighter than the current model, with a larger battery and a vapor chamber cooling system similar to the one first used on the iPhone 17 Pro. One supply chain rumor last week also pointed to a two‑camera setup on the back. Those details are still unannounced, so treat them as report‑level info, not official specs.

Importantly, the device is not said to be canceled. The Information says some Apple engineers and manufacturing partners are still working on it, even though it was taken off the formal schedule. Pulling a product this late, without a new date, is unusual for Apple, and that alone tells you there is a bigger rethink happening behind the scenes.

Why hit pause now? The report links the move to softer than expected sales of the first iPhone Air. It says Foxconn has dismantled most of its iPhone Air production lines and expects to halt all production by the end of the month, while Luxshare reportedly ended its iPhone Air assembly in late October. That paints a clear picture of demand cooling down, at least for this specific model.

So what happens next? The same report suggests Apple’s fall lineup next year may focus on three phones instead of four: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone. It also mentions that the standard iPhone 18 and a more affordable iPhone 18e could arrive in spring 2027, with the iPhone Air 2 possibly joining them if the redesign lands in time. Note that Apple has not confirmed these product names or timelines.

Apple has reshuffled iPhone sizes before. The mini had loyal fans but short shelf life, and the Plus has bobbed in and out of favor depending on the year. Thin and light phones tend to earn strong praise, even if they are not the sales leader. That sounds like the iPhone Air story too. Sometimes a good niche needs a second swing or a fresh design to click.

If you were waiting on the next thin‑and‑light iPhone, the choice is simple. Buy the current iPhone Air while stock lasts, or sit tight and watch for clearer news on the iPhone Air 2 release date. For now, all we have is a report of an iPhone Air 2 delay and a hint that the project is being reworked, not scrapped.
