Xiaomi looks set to drop another tablet soon, and this time it’s the Redmi Pad 2 Pro. Fresh leaks just hit the web today showing off what this budget-friendly tablet will pack inside.
The company only released the regular Pad 2 back in June, but now they’re ready to give us the “Pro” version. Think of it as the follow-up to last year’s original Redmi Pad Pro, just with a slightly different name this time around.
So what’s new with the Redmi Pad 2 Pro? Well, the leaked promo images reveal a 12.1-inch screen that hits 120Hz refresh rates. The display rocks what Xiaomi calls “2.5K” resolution, which should make everything look pretty crisp. That’s the same screen size as the previous Pro model, so no major changes there.
The real upgrade comes with the processor. This tablet runs on Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip. That’s a nice step up from the older 7s Gen 2 that powered the last Pro tablet. You’ll also get 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage, and thankfully, you can expand that storage with a microSD card.
Battery life gets a solid boost too. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro packs 12,000 mAh battery, which is way bigger than the 10,000 mAh cell in the previous model. Charging stays at 33W for the main power input, but here’s something cool – it can also do 27W reverse charging. That means you can use your tablet to juice up your phone or other gadgets.
Camera setup is pretty basic but gets the job done. You get an 8MP shooter on both the front and back. Nothing fancy here, but probably fine for video calls and quick snaps.
Audio should be solid though. The tablet comes with four speakers that support Dolby Atmos, plus something called “300% volume boost”. That sounds impressive, though we’ll have to wait and see how loud it actually gets. And yes, the 3.5mm headphone jack is still there for those who prefer wired audio.
The whole package weighs in at 890 grams and comes in Graphite Gray. That’s not super light, but not terrible for a 12-inch tablet either.
When can you actually buy one? That’s still up in the air. Xiaomi has a big launch event planned for September 24 where they’ll show off the 15T series phones. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro might tag along for that reveal too, but nothing’s confirmed yet.
Price details haven’t leaked yet either. But considering the original Pad Pro launched around $207 in China, expect something in that ballpark. The regular Pad 2 starts much cheaper though, so this Pro version will definitely cost more.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro looks like a solid mid-range tablet that fixes some of the weak spots from the previous generation. That bigger battery should help with all-day use, and the newer processor should handle most tasks without breaking a sweat. Just don’t expect any groundbreaking features – this seems aimed at people who want decent performance without spending flagship money.
