The OnePlus 15 just got its first real photo leak, and wow, things are about to change big time. A Weibo user dropped what appears to be our first genuine look at OnePlus’s next flagship phone, and it’s pretty clear the company decided to shake things up.
Say goodbye to that circular camera bump we’ve seen on recent OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 15 design leak shows a completely different approach with a square camera island that has rounded corners painted in black. It’s a bold move that definitely makes the phone stand out from its older siblings.
The leaked image reveals three OnePlus 15 colors that will hit the market. There’s Absolute Black on the left, Mist Purple in the middle, and something called Dune on the right. That Dune color is apparently going to be the star of the show. OnePlus plans to use it as their main marketing color, so expect to see it everywhere when the phone officially launches.
Here’s something interesting about that Absolute Black option. Earlier leaks suggested OnePlus was working on the “blackest black” paint job ever seen on a smartphone. We’re talking about a finish so dark it supposedly looks like a black hole. The leaked photo probably doesn’t do it justice since cameras struggle with super dark colors anyway.
The OnePlus 15 first look also confirms some specs we’ve been hearing about. That flat 6.78-inch display is getting a nice bump up to 165Hz refresh rate from the usual 120Hz. The screen resolution stays at what OnePlus calls “1.5K” which should keep things crisp and clear.
OnePlus is skipping the number 4 completely, just like they always do. So we go straight from OnePlus 13 to OnePlus 15. It’s a cultural thing about the number 4 being unlucky.
The camera setup looks pretty interesting too. Three lenses are arranged in that new square design, with two cameras paired together and one sitting by itself. We’re hearing all three might be 50MP sensors, which would be a nice upgrade across the board.
Power-wise, the OnePlus 15 specs include the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset that should make everything super smooth. The real star might be that massive 7,000mAh battery though. That’s way bigger than what we usually see, and it’ll come with 120W fast charging plus 50W wireless charging.
Weight differs between the OnePlus 15 colors, which is pretty unusual. The Dune version weighs about 211 grams while both Absolute Black and Mist Purple tip the scales at 215 grams. This suggests different materials or finishes on the back of each color variant.
OnePlus ended their partnership with Hasselblad, so they’re working on their own image processing called DetailMax Engine. We’ll have to wait and see how their homegrown camera tech compares to what Hasselblad was bringing to the table.
The OnePlus 15 launch date is expected sometime in October for China, with other markets getting it early next year. No word yet on exact pricing, but expect it to compete with other premium Android phones in that same price range.
This design change feels pretty significant for OnePlus. They’ve been using circular camera islands for a while now, so switching to a square setup shows they’re not afraid to try new things. Whether people love it or hate it, at least it’ll definitely stand out in a crowded smartphone market.
The leaked OnePlus 15 photo gives us our best look yet at what’s coming, and October can’t get here fast enough for OnePlus fans eager to see the real deal.
