Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chipset, likely to be named the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, is shaping up to be a powerhouse. As anticipation builds ahead of the Snapdragon Summit later this month in Hawaii, rumors are swirling about its performance—especially in the AnTuTu benchmark.
In recent months, the chipset was previously known as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Back in June, we heard about substantial gains in both single-core and multi-core Geekbench scores, with improvements of around 20–30% and 10–15%, respectively. But now, fresh rumors suggest that Qualcomm’s new flagship will blow those numbers out of the water when it comes to AnTuTu.
According to leaks from China, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could score between 4.2 million and 4.4 million points on AnTuTu, setting it up to smash records. If true, this would mark a significant leap, as the current highest performer, the Red Magic 10 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite, achieves around 2.67 million points. That’s a jump of at least 58%, a pretty massive boost in performance.
For context, the chipset will go toe-to-toe with MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9500, which is expected to score 4 million points. If Qualcomm’s chipset hits the upper end of these rumored scores, it would outperform the Dimensity 9500 by 5% to 10%.
However, it’s important to note that these benchmarks are being compared between different versions of AnTuTu. The Snapdragon 8 Elite scores were obtained using AnTuTu v10, while the Dimensity 9500 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s scores are based on the newer AnTuTu v11. So, while the numbers are impressive, a direct comparison between the two benchmark versions might not be entirely fair.
Still, the numbers suggest that we’re in for an exciting few months. Qualcomm’s flagship could redefine mobile performance, with both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the Dimensity 9500 taking center stage in upcoming flagship devices. This looks like it will be one of the most exciting chipset battles in recent years.
