Xiaomi’s next flagship line is getting close, and fresh leaks suggest the company is dusting off one of its boldest ideas. The Xiaomi 16 series, expected to launch in China later this month, may ship with a tiny screen built right into the camera block — something we last saw on the Mi 11 Ultra in 2021.
The latest photos, shared by a well-known tipster, Ishan Agarwal on X, show what’s said to be the 16 Pro Max. The shots reveal a wide, rectangular camera module that stretches across the back. Two large lenses sit on the left, while a third camera and flash rest underneath. The eye-catcher is the dark glass area in the middle, which looks very much like a small secondary display.

If that panel is functional, it could serve up quick info, notifications, or even a preview for selfies using the main cameras — a trick the Mi 11 Ultra pulled off but never really caught on elsewhere. The layout also looks surprisingly close to renders floating around of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, which makes things even more interesting.
Of course, Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed anything yet, and leaks don’t always tell the full story. But if the company does bring this design back, the 16 Pro Max won’t just blend in with the crowd — it’ll stand out the moment you flip it over.
