Huawei just dropped some exciting news about their wild tri-fold phone. The Mate XTs is coming September 4th, and this time they’re bringing some fresh color options that look pretty sweet.
Remember last year when Huawei shocked everyone with that phone that folds three ways? Well, they’re doing it again. The new Mate XTs keeps that same mind-bending design but adds some style upgrades that people have been asking for.
The big news here is the color lineup. Instead of just the basic red and black from before, you can now pick from four different shades. There’s a clean white version that looks really sharp, plus a new purple option they’re calling “Hibiscus Purple”. The classic Dark Black and Red are still available if you prefer those.
But here’s what’s really cool – they’re finally adding stylus support. Richard Yu, Huawei’s consumer boss, actually posted a video showing him using the stylus on the unfolded screen. That’s huge for anyone who wants to use this thing for work or drawing.
If you’re in China and want one, pre-reservations are already live on Huawei’s official store. They’re offering three storage options: 16GB RAM with either 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage. All variants come with that same 16GB of RAM, so performance should be consistent no matter which size you pick.
The timing feels pretty strategic too. Huawei picked September 4th, which puts them right before IFA 2025 and just days ahead of Apple’s iPhone event. Smart move if you want to grab headlines before everyone starts talking about the latest iPhone.
Under the surface, word is they’re using the new Kirin 9020 processor, which should bring better performance and possibly satellite connectivity. The camera setup is getting some upgrades too, with a variable aperture main camera and improved zoom lens.
Price-wise, expect it to cost about the same as the original – around $2,800 in China. That’s definitely premium territory, but you’re paying for some pretty cutting-edge tech. This is still the world’s only commercial tri-fold smartphone.
The whole thing unfolds into a massive 10.2-inch display when fully opened, or you can use it at 7.9 inches with one fold, or as a regular 6.4-inch phone when completely folded. It’s basically three devices in one, which explains that hefty price tag.
What makes this launch interesting is how Huawei is positioning it against both Samsung’s upcoming foldables and Apple’s new iPhones. In China, where Huawei still has a strong presence, this could definitely steal some thunder from the competition.
The stylus addition shows they’re serious about making this more than just a cool tech demo. With productivity features and those larger screen modes, it could actually be useful for people who need a device that works as both phone and tablet.
Whether this tri-fold concept catches on globally remains to be seen. But if you’re in China and want the most unique phone on the market, September 4th is your day. Just be ready to pay premium prices for that cutting-edge folding action.
