Oppo’s next big flagship, the Oppo X9 Ultra, just popped up in fresh leaks — and it might share its main camera sensor with Samsung’s upcoming Ultra flagship. A well-known Chinese leaker says Oppo is testing a 200 megapixel main sensor that looks a lot like the Sony chip that has been linked to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra. That would put two of the next generation’s biggest flagships on very similar camera ground.
What the Oppo X9 Ultra leaks reveal
Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station posted details about Oppo X9 Ultra prototypes, saying the phone uses a 200MP main camera with a roughly 1/1.1 inch sensor size. Multiple outlets have picked up that post and repeated the claim. The sensor would be larger than many current 200MP phone sensors, which can help with low light and detail when tuned right.

Why the size matters
When it comes to image quality, megapixels aren’t everything — sensor size plays a bigger role. At the same aperture, a larger sensor of 1/1.1 inch receives more light than the 1/1.3 inch. That helps when light is low and it can also improve the natural background blur in photos. The possible Sony 200MP chip has been discussed as an upgrade path for flagships that want higher real-world image quality, not just a bigger number on the spec sheet.
Oppo vs Samsung: same sensor?
Possibly, but not guaranteed. Samsung has traditionally used its own ISOCELL sensors for Ultra models. There are leaks that indicate Samsung might test a Sony 200MP 1/1.1 inch sensor in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which would be an interesting change. Meanwhile, this isn’t confirmed as there is no official Sony product page yet of a 200MP 1/1.1 sensor, so read it as such.
Timing and where the phones will sell
Oppo’s product manager has said the Oppo X9 lineup will follow the same staggered schedule as the X8 series, with the Oppo X9 Ultra arriving in the first half of 2026. That timing could put Oppo’s reveal after the Chinese New Year period in February.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is widely expected around the January 2026 Unpacked window. Also remember Oppo’s X8 Ultra was mostly a China model, so the X9 Ultra might not be sold everywhere, which would limit direct head to head comparisons in some markets.

| Chipset | Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for Ultra variant (rumored). |
| Battery | Dual-cell pack around 6,850–7,000 mAh reported in recent leaks. |
| Launch window | Expected early 2026 for the Oppo X9 Ultra; S26 Ultra expected January 2026 per leaks. |

Bottom line
If Oppo does use the same Sony 200MP 1/1.1 inch sensor that Samsung is testing, we will see two flagships starting life from very similar camera hardware. Execution will still make the difference. Software tuning, optics, and how each brand handles pixel binning and color will shape the final photos more than the megapixel number alone.
For now, treat these as strong leaks — we’ll have to wait for Sony, Oppo, or Samsung to make anything official.
