Nothing Phone (3) Will Get 7 Years of Software Support

Nothing Phone 3 software support

Nothing just confirmed something pretty rare in the Android world — the new Nothing Phone (3) will be supported for a full 7 years.

Yep, seven years of security updates and five years of Android version upgrades. For a phone that hasn’t even launched yet, that’s a bold promise — and a big leap from what the previous model, the Phone (2), offered.

What’s Actually New?

Nothing recently revealed that the Phone (3) will run on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, which is a smart choice for two reasons:

  1. It’s fast — with up to 88% better graphics performance and 33% faster CPU speeds than last year’s chip.
  2. It helps Nothing extend the software lifespan. The chip is designed to support long-term OS updates and security patches — which is why Nothing is calling this a “5 and 7” phone.

8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP – and default software support is 4 & 4. Phone (3) will have 5 & 7.

In short: 5 years of Android upgrades, 7 years of security updates. Compare that to the Phone (2), which only got 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches. That’s a huge bump in long-term value.

Why This Matters for Real Users

Let’s be honest — most people don’t switch phones every year. But software support is often what forces upgrades. With Nothing Phone (3), that pressure eases off.

Imagine still getting Android 20+ and security updates in 2032 — that’s what you’re being promised here.

More support also means more resale value, better app compatibility, and fewer worries about bugs or security risks. It’s the kind of thing iPhone users brag about — and now Android fans finally have something to cheer for too.

Launch

The Nothing Phone (3) is expected to launch sometime in July 2025, though an exact date hasn’t been shared yet. More specs and design details are still under wraps, but if this level of long-term support is already being highlighted, we can expect Nothing to position the Phone (3) as its most polished and mature device yet.

Final Thoughts

The Nothing Phone (3) isn’t just another cool-looking phone — it’s shaping up to be a rare kind of Android device: one that sticks around.

It won’t just be fast on Day 1 — it’s built to stay relevant for years. In a world where many Android phones barely get 2 or 3 years of love, this 5+7 commitment feels refreshing.

If Nothing keeps this up, it may quietly become one of the most trustworthy Android brands for long-term buyers.
