Sony Xperia 1 VII Launches with Pro Camera and 4K Display

As Sony enters another flagship competition, they reuse their renowned designs and advanced photography features while improving them for the 2025 models. You’re getting the same solid basics on the Xperia 1 VII fans know and love. Here’s everything you need to know.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Design & Build

Sony isn’t straying far from its roots here. Same old Sony vibe—simple, sharp, and instantly recognizable. Compared to last year’s Xperia 1 VI, this version has a smaller height but adds a little width and thickness, clocking in at 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5mm. And yes, those sharp corners are still here, giving it that classic Xperia silhouette.

Color-wise, leaks point to three options at launch: black, purple, and a new navy green that should turn some heads.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Display

Sony isn’t giving up on the 4K OLED display life just yet. That gorgeous 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED screen is back—and let’s be real, it’s still one of the sharpest displays you’ll find on any flagship. Perfect for cinephiles, content creators, or just people who like their screen sharp and punchy. The device features standard buttery-smooth scrolling because Sony tends to utilize a 120Hz refresh rate in their products.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Processor

Running the show is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm’s flagship chip for 2025, also known as the Elite variant. Backed by 12GB of RAM, the Xperia 1 VII should fly through everyday tasks and gaming. Storage may start at 256GB, and the best part? microSD support is expected to stick around, unlike most other flagships in 2025.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Cameras

Sony is doubling down on its imaging game again this year.

Rear Camera:

The main sensor is expected to be the 50MP Exmor T, just like last year, but don’t let the “same sensor” fool you. Improvements to computational photography and a possibly upgraded telephoto lens with up to 8.3x variable optical zoom could make a real difference. You’ll still get that triple-lens setup, likely with pro manual controls baked in.

Front Camera:

Details on the front cam are still a bit hush-hush, but expect it to hover around the 12MP mark, with the usual wide-angle lens for group selfies and 4K video.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Battery

Battery life should remain solid with a 5,000mAh cell, along with fast charging support. Sony hasn’t gone crazy with battery gimmicks, and it seems like they’re aiming for consistency and longevity instead of flashy wattage numbers.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Software

The phone is tipped to launch with Android 15 out of the box—even though Android 16 might start rolling out globally by late June. This detail matters, but it remains unimportant. Sony’s UI usually stays pretty close to stock Android, with a few creator-focused tweaks.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Audio & Haptics

Sony isn’t abandoning its niche fans. You’ll still get front-facing stereo speakers—a rare gem these days—and yes, the legendary 3.5mm headphone jack is still alive. Great news for audiophiles. Expect decent haptics too, though Sony doesn’t usually brag about vibration feedback.

Price and Availability

The Xperia 1 VII will first launch in Japan on May 15 before expanding to worldwide markets during July. Pricing details are still under wraps, but based on past trends, expect it to land in the $1,200–$1,400 range globally.

Final Thoughts

The Sony Xperia 1 VII stays true to the brand’s design and philosophy—no flashy gimmicks, just solid hardware, pro-focused features, and a display that still turns heads. It may not be for everyone, but for creators, audiophiles, and loyal Sony fans, this phone checks all the right boxes. If you’re outside Japan, you’ll have to be patient—but the wait might just be worth it.
