OnePlus pulled the curtain back on its next big software release, officially announcing OxygenOS 16. This new version is built on Android 16 and, from the looks of it, the company is going all-in on making your phone smarter and more personal.
The biggest story with this OxygenOS 16 update is definitely all the new AI features. They’ve added some really practical tools. For instance, a new AI Writer can help you draft up text or check your writing in pretty much any app. There’s also an AI Recorder that not only records audio but also creates a transcript and can even tell you who was speaking.
The Gallery app is getting smarter, too. It can now adjust the lighting on faces in your pictures and even fix a person’s expression or closed eyes by using bits from other photos. It sounds pretty cool for fixing those group shots where someone always blinks. The existing Mind Space feature also gets an upgrade with Google Gemini, so you can ask it to find things for you or even create a travel plan.
Beyond the AI smarts, OnePlus spent time making the whole system feel better to use. They say the interface is much smoother now because of improvements to how the phone handles tasks in the background. You also get a lot more control over how your phone looks.
The lockscreen has new clock styles and widgets, and you can even use live photos or videos as your background. The icons on your homescreen can now be resized, and some can even have little functions built right into them for quick actions.
OnePlus is also really boosting its cross-platform connectivity this time around. You can now share files and data seamlessly between your OnePlus phone and tablet, and also access everything from a Mac or a Windows PC. In a pretty surprising move, they’re adding support for the Apple Watch. This means you’ll be able to see notifications, messages, and calls from your OnePlus phone right on your Apple Watch. That’s a nice touch for people who use devices from different brands.

If you have a OnePlus tablet, you’ll see better multitasking features and get the same new home and lockscreen customization options. For anyone eager to try it all out, OnePlus is opening up the OxygenOS 16 beta program soon. For everyone else, the company shared a schedule for the official stable releases.
