Vivo has officially confirmed the launch date for its newest mid-range phone, the Vivo Y500, which is set to arrive in China on September 1st. The Chinese smartphone maker has been building up excitement for this device over the past week, and now we know exactly when it’ll make its debut.
The standout feature? A massive 8,200 mAh battery that crushes what most phones offer today. This is a huge jump from the previous Y300’s 6,000 mAh unit, making it the biggest battery Vivo has ever put in a smartphone. For anyone tired of charging their phone multiple times a day, this could be a game-changer.
But the Y500 isn’t just about battery life. Vivo has loaded this phone with serious protection features, including IP69+ waterproofing that goes beyond what most phones offer. The company has also earned SGS Gold Label five-star certification for drop and impact resistance, meaning this phone should handle real-world accidents much better than typical smartphones.
The device will come in three color options: light blue, black, and purple, giving buyers some nice variety to choose from.
While Vivo hasn’t revealed all the specs yet, leaked information suggests the Y500 will pack some solid features. According to tipster reports, the device will have a 6.77-inch curved AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The screen should reach up to 5,000 nits peak brightness, making it easy to read even in bright sunlight.
Inside, the Y500 is expected to run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 processor. This is an improvement over the Dimensity 6300 found in the previous model. It should provide better performance for gaming and daily tasks.
The camera setup appears to include a 50MP main camera on the back, paired with a secondary lens and LED flash. For selfies, there’s reportedly an 8MP front-facing camera. The phone is also rumored to support 90W fast charging, which would fill up that huge battery relatively quickly despite its size.
The Y500 will likely run Android 15 with Vivo’s Origin OS 5 on top, giving users the latest Android features with Vivo’s custom touches.
Here’s something interesting: this phone might not stay exclusive to China forever. Reports suggest the Y500 could launch internationally with different names, possibly as the Vivo T5 or iQOO Z11 in markets like India. This follows Vivo’s recent pattern of releasing phones under various brand names in different regions.
The official launch event will take place at 7:00 PM China time on September 1st. This is 4:30 PM Indian Standard Time for those who want to note the time. Vivo hasn’t shared the pricing details yet. However, considering its place in the Y series, it will likely aim for the mid-range market.

With its record-breaking battery, military-grade durability, and upgraded processor, the Y500 looks like Vivo’s attempt to create a phone that can handle anything users throw at it. Whether you’re a heavy user who needs all-day battery life or someone who tends to drop their phone, this device seems designed for real-world use.
The September 1st launch can’t come soon enough for those waiting to see how this battery monster performs in actual testing.
