OnePlus 13 Adds Smart Charging Limit in Android 16 Beta 2 — How It Helps Battery Life

OnePlus 13 Adds Smart Charging Limit in Android 16 Beta 2 — How It Helps Battery Life

OnePlus Quietly Adds Smart Battery Charging Feature in Android 16 Beta 2

OnePlus just rolled out its second Android 16 beta update for the OnePlus 13. While the company didn’t make a big deal about it, there’s a new hidden feature that could help extend your phone’s battery life — and it’s kind of a big deal.

Let’s break it down.

Pick How Much You Want to Charge — 80% to 100%

The update includes a hidden customizable charging limit setting. Instead of charging your phone all the way to 100% by default, you can now set a cap between 80% and 100%.

The options are:

  • 80%
  • 85%
  • 90%
  • 95%
  • 100%

Why does this matter? Charging to 100% all the time can stress your battery over the long run. By limiting the charge, you can reduce battery aging — which is especially helpful if you plug in overnight or keep your phone charged for hours at a time.

It’s something Apple users have had for a while, and it’s good to see Android catching up here — especially in a user-friendly way.

How to Turn It On

If you’re testing Android 16 Beta 2 on your OnePlus 13, here’s how to find the new option:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Battery
  3. Open Battery Health
  4. Toggle on Charging limit
  5. Choose your preferred max charge percentage

That’s it. Set it once, and your phone won’t go past that limit during regular charging.

A Small Detail That Makes a Big Difference

This feature wasn’t officially listed in OnePlus’ changelog, but was spotted by the OnePlus System Apps Telegram group. It might be experimental for now, which could explain the lack of fanfare.

Also, the 100% option is kind of odd — if you’re picking 100%, you’re essentially turning off the limit. So don’t be surprised if OnePlus removes that choice in a future update.

Still, the rest of the options make this a genuinely useful feature — especially for users who care about long-term battery health.

How Does It Compare?

Samsung and Google have similar battery protection features, but they’re not always customizable. Samsung, for example, locks it at 85% on supported devices. OnePlus giving users multiple options is a smart move — and makes it stand out.

Final Thoughts

This new charging limit tool might not be flashy, but it’s a welcome quality-of-life upgrade for power users and anyone looking to make their phone last longer.

If this feature makes it into the stable Android 16 release, the OnePlus 13 could become an even stronger pick for Android fans who want more control.
