Nubia Z70S Ultra Review: The Camera Beast That Actually Delivers
4.2
Nubia Z70S Ultra

The Nubia Z70S Ultra just landed, and it’s making some serious noise in the flagship space. This phone promises big camera upgrades, massive battery life, and that signature under-display selfie cam that Nubia loves so much. But does it actually live up to the hype? Let’s find out.

Nubia Z70S Ultra Review: Design & Build

Right off the bat, this phone feels premium in your hands. The Z70S Ultra switches to a leather-like retro-looking texture for its back panel, which gives it a unique vibe compared to the usual glass-sandwich designs everyone else is doing.

Nubia Z70S Ultra Review:

At 6.85 inches, it’s definitely on the bigger side. You’ll need both hands for most tasks, but the curved edges make it surprisingly comfortable to hold. The phone feels solid without being too heavy, and that textured back actually helps with grip – no more slippery phone disasters.

Nubia Z70S Ultra Review: Display

The display is where things get interesting. The nubia features a large 6.85-inch screen with a 2688×1216 resolution in a 19.9:9 format, offering sharp visuals at 430ppi. It also stands out with a 144Hz refresh rate—something you won’t find on most phones.

That 144Hz refresh rate is genuinely smooth – way smoother than your typical 120Hz screen. Scrolling through Instagram feels buttery, and gaming enthusiasts will notice the difference immediately. The colors pop nicely for Netflix binges, though outdoor visibility could be better on super bright days.

The under-display camera means you get that full-screen experience without any notch getting in the way. It’s pretty cool tech, even if the selfie quality takes a small hit.

Nubia Z70S Ultra: Performance

Features Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and this thing absolutely flies through everything you throw at it. Apps open instantly, multitasking is smooth as butter, and even heavy games run without breaking a sweat.

No lag while switching between WhatsApp and Chrome feels smooth, even with around 10 tabs running. The phone handles everything from basic scrolling to intensive gaming like it’s nothing. This is flagship-level performance that actually feels flagship.

Rear Camera

The camera setup is where Nubia really tried to make a statement. Nubia uses a sizable 1/1.3-inch sensor for its 35mm main camera—a rare find in this price bracket and seriously impressive

Daylight photos look fantastic – sharp details, accurate colors, and that nice depth you get from larger sensors. The 35mm focal length gives you that natural perspective that feels just right for most shots. Portrait mode works well too, with decent edge detection that doesn’t mess up your hair too often.

Low light is where things get tricky. While it’s better than budget phones, don’t expect Pixel-level night photography magic. Indoor shots can look a bit soft, and really dark scenes still struggle with noise.

  • Camera: 50MP main (OIS), 64MP periscope (OIS, 2.7x zoom), 50MP ultra-wide
  • Video: 8K/4K/1080p, HDR10, 10-bit

Front Camera

The under-display selfie camera is the trade-off here. Outdoor selfies look decent with good detail, but indoor shots definitely lose some sharpness. Video calls are fine, but you’ll notice the difference compared to traditional front cameras.

For social media posting, it gets the job done – just don’t expect Instagram-perfect selfies in dim lighting.

  • Camera: 16MP, under-display
  • Video: 1080p

Nubia Z70S Ultra: Battery

6600 mAh battery – and wow, this thing lasts forever. We’re talking easy full-day usage even with heavy streaming, gaming, and GPS navigation running.

Most people will get well into a second day with moderate use. Even power users who blast the 144Hz display and game regularly should easily make it through 12+ hours of screen time.

The charging speeds are solid too. You can get a decent chunk of battery back during a quick coffee break – about 40% in 20 minutes from what we’ve seen.

Nubia Z70S Ultra: Software

Runs Android 15 with Nubia’s custom skin, AIOS 1.5. The interface is mostly clean, though you’ll want to uninstall a few pre-loaded apps that you probably won’t use. No annoying ads popping up, which is always nice.

The software feels responsive and doesn’t get in your way too much. Update promises aren’t the strongest compared to Samsung or Google, but it should get security patches for a reasonable time.

Nubia Z70S Ultra: Audio & Haptics

Stereo speakers are loud enough for Netflix nights without headphones. They’re not mind-blowing, but they get the job done with decent clarity at higher volumes.

The haptic feedback feels pretty good – not as refined as an iPhone, but better than most Android phones in this price range. You’ll feel proper clicks when typing and gaming.
