Netflix Might Soon Suggest Shows Based on Your Mood, Thanks to AI

Netflix Might Soon Suggest Shows Based on Your Mood, Thanks to AI

Netflix is working on a new feature — and it’s all about your mood.

Instead of just picking shows by genre, Netflix might soon recommend stuff based on how you’re feeling. So if you type, “I want something cozy and slow,” it could actually show you exactly that.

What’s Going On?

The company is testing an AI-powered search tool. It’s kind of like ChatGPT, but built into Netflix. You type what you feel like watching — not just the usual “comedy” or “action.” More like:

  • “A chill drama that’s not too intense”
  • “A funny show for a bad day”
  • “Something slow and emotional, with great music”

And boom — the AI finds matches that fit your mood.

Where’s It Available?

Right now, only iPhone users in Australia and New Zealand are getting to try it. But Netflix says it could come to the U.S. soon.

How It Works

The feature is optional. You can turn it on if you want to try mood-based searching. If not, you can keep using the regular setup.

Basically, you describe what you’re in the mood for, and the AI suggests titles that fit. It’s like having a smart friend who just gets what you want to watch.

Other Platforms Are Doing It Too

Netflix isn’t the first to try this. Apps like Taranify and FeelFlix already suggest movies based on mood. Some use colors. Others use quizzes.

It’s part of a growing trend — making your streaming time feel a little more personal.

What About Privacy?

Netflix already collects a lot of data about what we watch. Now it might also learn about how we feel. That raises a few questions.

So far, Netflix hasn’t shared full details on how it’ll handle mood-related data. But it’s something to keep an eye on.

Why This Matters

Let’s be real — sometimes scrolling through Netflix takes longer than actually watching something. If this works well, it could make that process faster and way more fun.

And who knows? Mood-based searching could become the new normal in how we pick shows.
