Alright, so here’s the deal — Motorola hasn’t officially said a word about the Moto G86 yet. But that hasn’t stopped the leaks from doing their thing. The folks over at Dutch site Nieuwe Mobiel just dropped a set of detailed renders that give us a solid first look at what’s coming next after last year’s Moto G85. And yeah, it’s looking pretty interesting for a mid-ranger.

Let’s break it down.

Flat Frame, Leather Back – Wait, Is This Really a G Series Phone?

First impressions? The Moto G86 ditches the curvy body from the G85 and goes flat this time — both the frame and the display. It’s a cleaner, more modern look, and honestly, kinda unexpected for this series. Bezels seem to be about the same as before, and button placement hasn’t moved either, so muscle memory won’t need a reset.

But here’s the part that might catch your eye: the back. It’s rocking what looks like vegan leather. Yup, on a G-series phone. It’s subtle, soft-looking, and brings that premium vibe usually saved for higher-end models. Not bad at all.

Now flip it around — the camera bump is wider this time and very reminiscent of Motorola’s more expensive Edge 60 lineup. The sensors are laid out in a similar stacked fashion, and it’s clear they’re borrowing design cues from their fancier cousins.

Also worth pointing out: there’s a small hole just under the power button, which wasn’t on the G85. Not sure yet if it’s just a microphone or something else, but hey, it’s new.

What About Specs? Here’s What We Know So Far

Motorola hasn’t dropped full hardware details yet, but recent leaks paint a decent picture. The Moto G86 is expected to carry over the same 6.67-inch FHD+ P-OLED display from the G85 — with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness around 1300 nits. So yeah, smooth scrolling and good visibility in sunlight should be part of the deal.

As for the chipset, rumor mill says it’ll run a Snapdragon SoC — likely a slight bump from the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 used in the G85. Memory could go up to 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, which is honestly more than enough for most folks unless you’re gaming hard or shooting 4K video all day.

Camera-wise, things look promising. The leak suggests a 50MP main camera with OIS (which is great for stable shots), along with an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro. Selfie duties are handled by a 32MP front shooter — not groundbreaking, but should get the job done for social media and video calls.

Battery, Software, and The Usual Extras

No surprises here — it’s tipped to pack a 5,000mAh battery, just like the G85. Fast charging should get a minor boost to 45W this time, so topping up shouldn’t take forever.

It’ll ship with Android 14 out of the box, and Motorola’s track record with updates on this series has actually been solid lately. The G85 got its first major update faster than some flagships — so we’re hopeful the G86 follows that trend.

Other bits? Expect stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and dual SIM support. Basically, all the features you’d want in a dependable daily driver.

Colors, Price, and Possible Launch Timing

According to the latest leak, the Moto G86 will come in four color options: Golden, Cosmic (a soft lavender), Red, and Spellbound Blue. A little more bold and playful than last year, which we’re here for.

As for pricing, the 8GB + 256GB version could land around €330 — that’s roughly ₹31,000 in India. Of course, regional pricing can vary, so take that with a grain of salt.

Now, timing. The G85 launched in July 2024, and we’re already deep into April 2025. So yeah, the G86 is probably just weeks away from going official. Maybe even sooner.

Final Verdict: A Safe but Smart Upgrade?

The Moto G86 isn’t breaking the mid-range mold, but it’s polishing it up a bit. The flat design and vegan leather back feel like real steps forward. Cameras get a slight bump, charging gets faster, and everything else sticks to what worked well in the G85.

If Motorola nails the price, this could be another solid, no-fuss daily phone — perfect for folks who want reliable performance, decent cameras, and a bit of style without breaking the bank.

More to come once the official specs drop, but for now? The G86’s shaping up to be a smart little upgrade.
