Apple’s expected to drop the iPhone 17 Air this September, replacing the iPhone 16 Plus in the lineup. If you like phones that are light and easy to hold, this one might catch your eye. New reports say the iPhone 17 Air will weigh between 145 and 150 grams. That’s lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, making it one of the lightest big-screen phones you can get.
One reason for this low weight is the frame. Apple is using 7000 series aluminum, which is lighter than the titanium frame found on some Samsung phones. The frame comes in at just around 25 to 30 grams. The OLED display adds 35 grams, and the glass back weighs 15 grams. The main camera is a single 48MP lens, and it’s very light too, just about 5 to 7 grams. Inside, the A19 chip and logic board together weigh around 10 to 12 grams, and the MagSafe and other small parts add another 10 to 12 grams.

A big change is coming to the battery. Apple is rumored to use a new silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery, which could give the iPhone 17 Air more power in a small size. Most leaks say the battery will be just under 3,000mAh, likely between 2,800 and 2,900mAh. Apple might also offer a battery case for people who want extra power, but that would make the phone a bit thicker.
Despite packing in all these features, the iPhone 17 Air is reportedly just 5.5mm thin. That’s slimmer than the Galaxy S25 Edge, so it should feel really sleek in your hand.
You’ve got a 24MP selfie shooter up front—perfect for pics, video calls. You’re also getting 8GB of RAM, a vibrant OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, Always-On support, Dynamic Island, Face ID, wireless charging, and global eSIM compatibility.
